AAA Editor Notes
Lake Okeechobee, with nearby cities Belle Glade, Canal Point, Clewiston, Lakeport, Moore Haven, Okeechobee, Pahokee and Port Mayaca, covers approximately 750 square miles and is the second largest freshwater lake in the continental United States. Its greatest depth is 14 feet, but the water is so shallow in most places that birds can be seen wading a mile from shore. A lighted pier at Lock 7 (US 441 and SR 78) provides day and night fishing. A hiking and biking trail winds 110 miles along a levee that surrounds the entire lake. Recreational facilities are available.

Recreational activities are permitted.
