St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum is 1 mi. s.e. on SR A1A, then n. on Red Cox Dr. on Anastasia Island. St. Augustine's maritime past is reflected in this working lighthouse and restored keeper's house. Visitors may climb the 219 stairs to the top of the tower for a panoramic view of the city and its beaches. Highlights include exhibits illustrating the lives of lightkeepers and U.S. Coast Guard personnel who were stationed in St. Augustine during World War II. Shipwreck artifacts also are featured. Themed guided tours are available; phone ahead to confirm schedule. Guided tours are available.
$12.95; $10.95 (ages 0-12 and 60+); free (active military with ID). Under 44 inches tall are not admitted to the lighthouse tower.
Hours: Daily 9-7, Memorial Day-Labor Day; 9-6, rest of year. Last admission 15 minutes before closing. Guided behind-the-scenes tours depart on the hour 11-3. Closed Christmas.
