AAA Editor Notes
Plaza de la Constitución, bounded by Cathedral Place and King, Charlotte and St. George sts., was the central square around which the business section of the Old City was built and where the slave market was held. One end overlooks Matanzas Bay and opens into the approach to the Bridge of Lions. Spaniards erected the monument in the center of the plaza in 1813 in honor of the Spanish Constitution of 1812. The public marketplace at the east end is a reconstruction of one built in 1824.

Concerts in the Plaza, a series of free concerts, is held every Thursday at 7 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
