Norton Museum of Art, 1451 S. Olive Ave., is recognized for its extensive permanent collection of European, American and Chinese art; contemporary art and photography. Highlights include ancient bronzes, jades, ceramics, 19th- and 20th-century paintings and sculpture by such European artists as Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso; and American artists including Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe and Jackson Pollock. Also available are special events and performances, educational programs and family offerings. Note: The museum and its grounds are undergoing an expansion until 2018 but are expected to remain open; phone ahead. Food is available 11:30-2:30 (also Thurs. 5-8:30). Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$12; $5 (students with ID); free (ages 0-12 and Florida teachers and administrators with school ID). An additional fee may be charged for programs and performances. Reservations for Family Studio and most programs are recommended.
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10-5 (also Thurs. 5-9), Sun. 11-5. Guided tours are given Tues.-Fri. at 12:30, 2 and 3 (also Sat. at 2 and 3, Sun. at 2), Jan.-Apr.; Tues.-Fri. at 12:30 and 2, Sat.-Sun. at 2, Nov.-Dec. French language tours are given second Sat. of the month at 11, Jan.-Apr. Art After Dark tours Thurs. at 5:30 and 6:30, year-round. Family Studio Sat. at 10:30, year-round. Closed Jan. 1, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
