AAA Editor Notes
Rock Eagle, 7 mi. n. on US 441 to 350 Rock Eagle Rd., is a 1,428-acre state 4-H center. On the center's grounds is an effigy mound topped by a huge representation of an open-winged bird, thought to be a buzzard or a hawk, made of milky quartz stones ranging from baseball-size to boulders. Archeologists believe the Mound Builders created the effigy A.D. 100-300. A tower affords a complete view of the structure.
