Georgia Southern Museum is in the Rosenwald Building on Southern Dr. on the grounds of Georgia Southern University, .5 mi. s. on US 301/25. This museum interprets the natural and cultural history of Georgia’s coastal plain emphasizing the relationship between ancient and modern oceans. The main attraction is a 26-foot Mosasaur skeleton believed to be about 78 million years old. A replica of a 40 million-year-old whale skeleton is displayed. One exhibit showcases artifacts excavated from Camp Lawton, a Confederate Prisoner of War camp. An additional gallery presents a variety of temporary exhibits.
