Barnsley Resort is at 597 Barnsley Gardens Rd. The 3,300-acre estate, built by Sir Godfrey Barnsley in the 1800s, features historic outbuildings, a cemetery, restored ruins of the original manor house and a museum containing Barnsley family memorabilia. The gardens have been restored to their 19th-century style; a variety of flowers and plants, more than 200 varieties of roses, water cascades and fountains are on view. A resort, spa and golf course are on the property. Hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, a hunting preserve and a sporting clays course with a covered shooting facility are available. Pets on leash are allowed. Recreational activities are permitted. Food is available.

Hours: Garden open Sun.-Fri. dawn-dusk, Sat. dawn-2. Museum open Mon.-Fri. 9-5, Sat. 9-2, Sun. noon-5. The site may be closed for private events some Sat. afternoons; phone ahead to confirm schedule.
