Kolomoki Mounds State Park, 6 mi. n. off US 27 at 205 Indian Mounds Rd., is an important archeological site and a popular recreation area. This 1,294-acre park contains seven mounds built by the Swift Creek and Weeden Island Native Americans. A museum at the west entrance chronicles the area's Native American cultures from 250 A.D. to 950 A.D. One exhibit shows the interior of a mound as archeologists left it.
