Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site, 1 Public Square across from the visitors bureau, depicts America's first major gold rush through exhibits of nuggets and gold dust, Dahlonega minted gold coins, mining apparatus and photographs of early mining activities. A 17-minute film titled “America's First Gold Rush” talks about the discovery of gold in the North Georgia mountains. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.

Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9-4:45, Sun. 10-4:45. Last film is shown 45 minutes before closing. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
