Georgia Sea Turtle Center is at 214 Stable Rd. in the Jekyll Island Historic Landmark District. The center is an educational, rehabilitation and research center for sick and injured sea turtles. An interactive exhibit gallery features engaging displays documenting the life cycle of a sea turtle. Rehabilitating turtles are displayed in several aquatic tanks. Educational talks are given throughout the day. Evening turtle walks and morning sunrise walks are offered in summer and focus on the natural history of sea turtles; a guided beach tour is included. A behind-the-scenes tour provides an up-close view of the center. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$7; $6 (ages 65+, teachers, active military and college students with ID); $5 (ages 4-12). Turtle walk $20. Behind-the-scenes tour $22; $17 (ages 10-12). Phone ahead to confirm rates. Reservations are required for turtle walks and behind-the-scenes tour. Turtle walks are limited to 25 persons; behind-the-scenes tour is limited to 6 persons. Children ages 0-4 are not permitted on walks. Children ages 0-9 are not permitted on behind-the-scenes tour.
Hours: Daily 9-5. Behind-the-scenes tour departs daily at 3. Turtle walks are scheduled daily at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., June-July (except July 4). Sunrise walks are scheduled select days between 7 and 9 a.m. during turtle hatching season, Aug.-Sept. Closed Jan. 1, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Closes Thanksgiving at 2.
