Telfair Academy is at 121 Barnard St. on Telfair Sq. Designed by William Jay in 1819, this Regency-style mansion includes two rooms furnished in period, including the impressive Octagon Room. The permanent collection features works by American Impressionists and European artists such as George Bellows, Chuck Close, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri and Roy Lichtenstein. On long-term loan is the Bird Girl statue popularized by the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.” Traveling exhibitions also are presented. Guided tours are available.
