Schoelcher Museum is at 24 rue Peynier behind the market. The museum is dedicated to abolitionist Victor Schoelcher, who is credited with ending slavery in the French West Indies in 1848. Housed in a 19th-century setting, the museum contains some of Schoelcher's personal belongings and traces the island's recent history.
