AAA Editor Notes

Battleship Missouri Memorial, next to the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center off SR 99, is moored at Pier Foxtrot-5 on Ford Island. The shuttle bus ride from the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park to the pier features stories of the history of the area and the Missouri, from the 1940s to the present. The ship, also known as “Mighty Mo,” is a veteran of World War II as well as the Korean and Gulf wars. Visitors can explore the decks of this ship launched in 1944 and decommissioned in 1998 and observe its 16-inch guns. Particularly stirring is a walk on the Surrender Deck, where, on Sept. 2, 1945, Japan signed the “Instrument of Surrender” ending World War II. Note: No bags of any type (except wallets) may be carried on board; bags may be stored for a fee. Tickets are sold at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
