AAA Editor Notes

Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace, 1184 Bishop St., was built in 1843 on the site of Hawai‘i’s first Catholic mission, founded in 1827. Blessed Damien was ordained here on May 24, 1864. It is the only church in the United States to have had a King (Kamehameha III) present for the laying of its cornerstone, and its 1846 clock is said to be the oldest clock in the state.
