AAA Editor Notes
Waikīkī Starlight Lū‘au, 2005 Kalia Rd., is held on the rooftop of the Mid-Pacific Conference Center at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikīkī Beach Resort. Guests can choose from two price points, based on seating and lei preference, but both include the buffet, entertainment and two mai tais or tropical juices. Guests who have chosen the general seating option should arrive early to snag a table closer to the stage.
Because this lū‘au is in a more urban setting, there is no traditional unveiling of the roasted pig in an imu (underground oven). The feast does include kalua pig, fish, salads and other Pacific Rim and Polynesian dishes.
For the adventurous types, there are conch-shell blowing contests and hula lessons before dinner. The after-dinner show features dancers from Hawai‘i, Tahiti, Tonga and Samoa and concludes with a fire dance.
Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
