AAA Editor Notes
Nāwiliwili Harbor, 2 mi. e. on SR 51 at jct. SR 58, is the island’s chief port. The harbor and the nearby airport make Līhu‘e a transportation and tour center. The harbor accommodates many cruise ships, and at the water’s edge is a huge bulk sugar plant from which raw sugar is shipped directly to the mainland for refining. The harbor was shelled Dec. 31, 1941, but sustained only slight damage.
