AAA Editor Notes
Wailua River State Park, along the banks of the Wailua River off Kūhiō Hwy. (SR 56), contains two waterfalls and several park areas with terrain varying from beach to mountain. Before the arrival of Capt. James Cook in 1778, the Wailua area was one of two royal residences on Kaua‘i. Heiau (temples) once stretched from the mouth of the river to the top of Mount Wai‘ale‘ale; several can be visited in the park.

Note: Heiau are culturally significant and should be treated with respect.

Picnicking is permitted.
