Kalalau Lookout, 3 mi. beyond Kōke‘e State Park headquarters, overlooks the beautiful Kalalau Valley and the Pacific Ocean 4,000 feet below. Though clouds often obscure the view, they tend to drift through quickly. Nevertheless, it's best to arrive in the morning when the skies are typically clearer.
Demigods were immortal as long as they remained in the shade. Two young demigods joined mortal children playing in the moonlight and became so enthralled with the games that they forgot the time and turned into stone at sunrise. This is the legend of origin of the two small stone figures on a hogback ridge.
Nēnē (Hawaiian geese) frequent the area; be careful when driving near them, as they prefer walking over flying.
Picnicking is permitted.
