Smith’s Wailua River/Fern Grotto Cruise

Smith’s Wailua River/Fern Grotto Cruise departs from Wailua River Marina, just w. off SR 56. The 80-minute narrated trip, via the only navigable river in the islands, includes Hawaiian entertainment and passes banks covered with pandanus and hau trees and pili grass, once used for houses. The grotto is a fern-festooned cave with a small waterfall flowing over the top. The abundance of vegetation and the force of the waterfall depend on the annual rainfall.
