Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad & Museum

Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad & Museum departs from 225 10th St. Round-trip 15-mile rides are offered through the Des Moines River Valley in vintage railroad cars. Sunday through Friday a diesel engine pulls the nine-car train, while on most Saturdays “The Iowan,” said to be the last Chinese steam locomotive, makes the run. The route crosses a 156-foot-high trestle. A 30-minute trolley ride and dinner and dessert train trips also are available. The James H. Andrew Railroad Museum & History Center showcases railroad memorabilia.
