Experimental Breeder Reactor #1 is 20 mi. e. on US 20 at the Idaho National Laboratory. On Dec. 20, 1951, the reactor became the first nuclear reactor to generate a usable amount of electricity. Exhibits document the facility's history, and free 45- to 60-minute guided tours are conducted as needed by trained guides. Self-guiding tour pamphlets describing the nuclear reactors, a reactor control room and detection devices are available.
