Idaho Museum of Mining & Geology (IMMG), 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd., documents the state's geologic history and mining heritage through models, dioramas, maps, a working seismography and microscope for examining samples. Rocks, minerals, fossils, photographs and historical artifacts are displayed in five themed exhibit areas. Topics discussed include mining districts of the Northwest, Ice Age floods and lakes, and the everyday uses of minerals. Professors and geologists lead field trips to such locations as the Bruneau Algal Reef and area mining districts.
