AAA Editor Notes
Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge is 5 mi. w. on Riverside St. along the south shore of the Kootenai River. Almost 3,000 acres along the river provide feeding, resting and breeding areas for migratory birds. Tundra swans are common in spring; Canada geese and ducks are most numerous in fall. White-tailed and mule deer, moose, black bears and coyotes also use the refuge.

One vehicle route, foot trails and three observation areas are maintained for visitors.

Picnicking is permitted.
