Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge is 4 mi. s.w. The refuge consists of two sections: Lake Lowell, an irrigation reservoir, and 104 islands in the Snake River, from Walter's Ferry downstream to Farewell Bend in Oregon. The islands are accessible only by boat.</br>The refuge harbors waterfowl as well as other birds and mammals. In winter the lake attracts ducks and geese as well as bald eagles that come to feed; in spring and summer, western grebes, great blue herons and black-crowned night herons come to nest.</br>Boating is permitted mid-April through September. Fishing and hunting are permitted in season in specified portions of the refuge.</br>
