AAA Editor Notes
Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge is 4 mi. s.w. The refuge consists of two sections: Lake Lowell, an irrigation reservoir, and 104 islands in the Snake River, from Walter's Ferry downstream to Farewell Bend in Oregon. The islands are accessible only by boat.

The refuge harbors waterfowl as well as other birds and mammals. In winter the lake attracts ducks and geese as well as bald eagles that come to feed; in spring and summer, western grebes, great blue herons and black-crowned night herons come to nest.

Boating is permitted mid-April through September. Fishing and hunting are permitted in season in specified portions of the refuge.
