AAA Editor Notes
Vermilion County Museum is 4 mi. n. off I-74 SR 1 exit to 116 N. Gilbert St. Designed to look like the 1833 Vermilion County Courthouse—the first courthouse in which Abraham Lincoln practiced law—the museum recounts local history and contains re-creations of a one-room schoolhouse and of Lincoln’s office.

Next door stands the 1855 Fithian Home built by physician and politician William Fithian, who was a personal friend of Lincoln’s. The house is furnished in the Victorian style and features a balcony from which Abraham Lincoln spoke while he was running for the U.S. Senate. The bedroom in which Lincoln stayed is preserved.

Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
