Lederman Science Center is on the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) campus, 3 mi. n. of I-88 Farnsworth Ave. exit at jct. Kirk Rd. and Pine St. Geared toward students in grades 4-9, the center features hands-on physics exhibits. The center’s interactive displays focus on the work performed at Fermilab, where scientists explore sub-atomic particles. The Take a Cosmic Shower exhibit simulates a cosmic ray shower experience. Visitors also can see educational exhibits pertaining to Fermilab research in the atrium and on the 15th-floor observation level of Wilson Hall, the central laboratory building at Fermilab. An art gallery with rotating displays also is available. The grounds contain a prairie trail, a bison enclosure and bicycle paths. Note: Photo ID is required. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.

Art gallery Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30. Guided tours of Wilson Hall are given Wed. at 10:30. Tours of Lederman Science Center are given the first Sat. of the month at 10. Closed major holidays.
