Bishop Hill State Historic Site, 2 mi. n. of US 34 on a 5-acre tract, commemorates the Swedish communal settlement with five museums. Skills and crafts of colony life are demonstrated, and 16 of the buildings have been restored. Bishop Hill Museum contains an outstanding collection of early American primitive paintings by Olof Krans, now recognized as one of America's foremost folk artists. Cultural events are held. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
