Byron Forest Preserve District is .3 mi. e. on W. Blackhawk Dr. (SR 2), .3 mi. s. on S. Union St. (SR 72), then just w. to 7993 River Rd. Visitors can explore 450 acres of preserved prairie land. The site includes more than 6 miles of trails for hiking, walking and cross-country skiing; an 18-hole golf course; the Jarrett Prairie Center, which houses interactive nature, history and prairie restoration displays and an observation area that overlooks the prairie; the Heritage Farm Museum with restored farm buildings; and an observatory.
