Cahokia Courthouse State Historic Site is off I-55/70, just w. of jct. SRs 3 and 157. Built in 1737 as a French residence, the structure was used as a courthouse until 1814. The first U.S. court sessions and elections in the state were held in this building. The visitor center has exhibits that trace the French influence in 18th-century Illinois. Guided tours are available.
