Adler Planetarium is just e. of Lake Shore Dr. (US 41) at 1300 S. Lake Shore Dr. Located on Chicago's lakefront the planetarium features exhibitions, sky and space shows and is home to three full-size theaters: the all-digital projection Definiti Space Theater, the technologically advanced Grainger Sky Theater and the 3-D Samuel C. Johnson Family Star Theater. The Planet Explorers exhibit allows families with children ages 2-8 to take the helm in a modern-day space mission where they can hunt for objects on the surface of the mysterious Planet X. The Atwood Experience includes the Atwood Sphere that puts the stars in motion as a guide takes viewers through different constellations. The exhibition Mission Moon highlights human stories of space exploration and features the story of Capt. James A. Lovell, Jr. The interactive Moon Wall allows visitors to fly over the lunar surface and explore up-to-date images from the moon's surface. Temporary exhibits also are offered, and educational programs are scheduled throughout the year. Food is available.
