Douglas Tomb State Historic Site, 636 E. 35th St., is 96 feet high and surmounted by a bronze figure of Stephen A. Douglas by sculptor Leonard Volk. Douglas, a congressman and a senator from Illinois who ran against Abraham Lincoln in the 1860 presidential election, is buried in the tomb at the base of the monument.</br>
