Harold Washington Library Center (Chicago Public Library), 400 S. State St., houses more than 2 million books and periodicals. Among the library's many special features are the Civil War and American History research collections; Chicago Theater collection; Chicago Blues Music Archives, one of the Midwest's largest publicly accessible sound recording collections; a 385-seat auditorium/theater; a children's library; and a winter garden.
