Shedd Aquarium, on the Museum Campus of Grant Park at 1200 S. Lake Shore Dr. (US 41), exhibits more than 32,000 aquatic animals in naturalistic settings. Visitors to the aquarium can watch divers hand-feed fish in the 90,000-gallon Caribbean Reef; see more than 40 species of frogs, toads and salamanders at the Amphibians exhibit; wander through the Amazon rainforest in the Amazon Rising exhibit; or observe coral shrimp, a giant Pacific octopus, Grand Cayman blue iguanas and turtles as well as gently touch the bony plates of lake sturgeons in the Waters of the World exhibit.
One of the largest indoor marine mammal pavilions in the world, the Abbott Oceanarium contains beluga whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, sea otters, California sea lions and a colony of penguins. An array of shark species dwell in the 575,000-gallon Wild Reef exhibit, which includes an artificial reef and several tons of imported sand. A One World aquatic show features rescue dogs, and a Stingray Touch show is offered seasonally (weather permitting). Special exhibits and behind-the-scenes tours are offered.
