Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site, 10 mi. n. off SR 3, occupies 275 acres on the Mississippi River. The fort, built during the French and Indian War, was destroyed by the townspeople to prevent it from falling into British hands. Garrison Hill Cemetery also is on the grounds. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
