Ulysses S. Grant Home State Historic Site, 500 Bouthillier St., was presented by the citizens of Galena to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant on his return from the Civil War in 1865. He lived in the home until 1867 when he became secretary of war, and again 1879-81. The 1860 house contains many of Grant's possessions and original furnishings. Presidential china and a Pets of the Presidents display also are featured. Guided tours are available.

Hours: Wed.-Sun. 9-5, Mar.-Oct.; 9-4, rest of year. Last tour begins 15 minutes before closing. Closed Jan. 1, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule and holiday hours.
