Carl Sandburg State Historic Site, at 313 E. Third St., is a three-room cottage that was the birthplace of Carl Sandburg. The neighboring visitor center contains a museum devoted to the life and works of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Lincoln biographer. Behind the cottage is Remembrance Rock, Sandburg's gravesite and memorial garden. A 20-minute video presentation is available, and a summer concert series is offered. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.

Hours: Fri.-Sun. 9-5, May-Oct.; 9-4, rest of year. Hours may vary. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule and holiday hours.
