Wildlife Prairie Park is off I-74 exit 82, 4 mi. s. on N. Kickapoo Edwards Rd. (N. Taylor Rd.), following signs to entrance. The park is dedicated to the preservation of Illinois animal and prairie life. On the grounds are more than 150 animals and 50 different species, including bison, elk, wolves, cougars, bears, bobcats, waterfowl, bald eagles and other animals native to Illinois. The park also has a museum, a one-room schoolhouse, a narrow-gauge railroad, a pioneer farmstead and a visitor center. Recreational activities include hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing and Frisbee golf; visitors also can take a seasonal train ride or narrated Adventure Trek tour through a bison and elk pasture. Events are held throughout the year. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$9; $7 (ages 65+); $6 (ages 3-12). Train ride $4; all-day pass $5. Adventure Trek $6; free (ages 0-2). Reservations are recommended for Adventure Trek.
Hours: Daily 9:30-6:30, Memorial Day-Labor Day; 9:30-4:30 Apr. 1-day before Memorial Day and day after Labor Day-Oct. 31; 10:30-4:30, rest of year. Last admission 1 hour before closing. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
