Museum of the Grand Prairie is .5 mi. n. on SR 47 in Lake of the Woods County Forest Preserve at 950 N. Lombard St. The museum's collection includes thousands of items reflecting early 20th-century home and farm life in east-central Illinois with two floors of interpretive exhibits, vignettes and period furnishings. The Champaign County's Lincoln exhibit explores the people and places of Champaign County during Lincoln's travels on the 8th Judicial Circuit. The Discovery Room provides hands-on opportunities for children. A one-room schoolhouse is open during the summer. Temporary exhibits also are offered.
Visitors may tour the adjoining botanical gardens, which contain annual, perennial and native plants, an all-America selection display garden and a discovery garden for children.
Museum open Mon.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. 1-5, June-Aug.; daily 1-5, Mar.-May and Sept.-Dec. Botanical gardens open dawn-dusk, year-round. Closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule. Allow 2 hours minimum.
