Naper Settlement is 2 blks. w. of Washington St. at jct. Aurora Ave. and Webster St. Visitors can relive the pioneer through Victorian eras in this outdoor history museum, a re-created 19th-century village. Set on 12 acres of landscaped grounds are a blacksmith shop, chapel, print shop, one-room schoolhouse, log house, post office and other buildings, which are interpreted by educators in period costumes April through October.
Highlights include the 1883 Martin Mitchell Mansion, a grand Victorian home original to the grounds; interactive exhibits and children's activities are available. The Harvard Early Learning Playscape offers a splash pad and playground geared toward children ages 2-7. Special events are held throughout the year.
An audio tour by cellphone is available. GPS units are available for geocaching.
