Children's Museum in Oak Lawn is at 5100 Museum Dr. Geared toward children under 12 years old, the museum occupies a redbrick building next to the train depot downtown. Young visitors to the museum can put on their own plays in a theater area, buy groceries at a child-size market, climb into a tree house, build a kite, take care of animals at a pretend animal shelter, learn about the events of Sept. 11, 2001 and engage in a variety of other hands-on activities. A cafe allows kids to play at waiting tables, taking orders, cooking food and paying for their pretend meals.
