Glen Oak Park, covering 117 acres, is at McClure Ave. and N. Prospect Rd. The park has the Peoria Zoo, Luthy Botanical Garden with outdoor gardens and indoor conservatory, picnic areas, tennis courts and a wooden playground built by children and volunteers. The zoo's Africa! exhibit features six species found in African grasslands including the white rhinoceros and Grevy's zebra. The Australia Walk-About exhibit features wallabies and an aviary. The Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum offers two floors of interactive activities for children. Outdoor entertainment is offered at Glen Oak Amphitheatre during the summer. Guided zoo tours are available by reservation. Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
Admission to park free. Zoo $9; $8 (ages 65+ and active military with ID); $6 (ages 2-12). Children's museum $8; $7 (ages 65+ and active military with ID). Zoo tours (includes zoo admission) $24.
Hours: Park open daily dawn-11 p.m. Zoo daily 10-5. Children's museum Mon.-Sat. 9-4 (also Thurs. 4-6), Sun. noon-5 late May-late Aug.; Mon. and Wed. 9-4 (also Thurs. 4-6), Sun. noon-5, rest of year. Zoo and children's museum closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and Dec. 31. Closes early some holidays; phone ahead. Last admission to zoo and children's museum 30 minutes before closing.
