Mississippi River Visitor Center is at 200 Rodman Ave. at the w. end of Arsenal Island; visitors should use the Moline entrance to Arsenal Island. At the center overlooking Lock and Dam 15 on the Mississippi River, visitors can watch as towboats and recreational boats pass through the locks. Park rangers are available to explain how water transportation works on the upper Mississippi.
Various exhibits describe river navigation, and a video presentation provides a history of Lock and Dam 15. A carved wooden fish display describes fish indigenous to the area. An aquarium also houses local species of fish. A historic dredge boat's binnacle and bell are on display, and an interactive area is available for children.
Note: Over age 18 must present a valid state-issued identification card, driver’s license or valid U.S. passport to enter Arsenal Island. Visitors from the states of Minnesota, Missouri and Washington are required to present a second form of identification.
