Midway Village Museum is .8 mi. w. off I-90 exit E. State St., .9 mi. n. on Perryville Rd., then .2 mi. w. to 6799 Guilford Rd. Permanent galleries house displays describing the city's history, local aviation pioneers and industry. Exhibits about the Rockford Peaches, a member of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, are showcased. Many Faces, One Community is a touch-friendly gallery featuring stories of immigrants. Ten heritage gardens also are on the grounds. Special events are held throughout the year including Sock Monkey Madness Festival, The Great War: World War I and a World War II re-enactment. Tours of a Victorian village with 26 buildings are offered in summer. Guided tours are available.

Hours: Museum center, mill house and doll house museum open Tues.-Fri. 10-4, Sat.-Sun. 10:30-4, May-Aug.; Tues.-Fri. 10-4, Sat. 10:30-4, rest of year. Village open Tues.-Sun. 11-4, June-Aug.; Thurs.-Sun. 11-4, in May; by appointment rest of year. Village tours are given on the hour. Last tour begins 1 hour before closing. Phone ahead to confirm schedule and holiday hours.
