Lake Springfield, s.e. off Lake Shore Dr., is a 4,235-acre man-made lake with 57 miles of shoreline. A surfaced drive encircles the lake. Some 110 landscaped acres constitute the Lincoln Memorial Garden and Nature Center, 2301 E. Lake Shore Dr., which has 6 miles of rustic trails and an exhibit room and is the site of seasonal festivals and educational programs. The recreational area, which offers eight public parks as well as boating, fishing, swimming, a children's zoo and a golf course, is at the east end of Vachel Lindsay Memorial Bridge.

Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
