Monroe County History Center is at 202 E. 6th St. Exhibits chronicle the history of the county, from its founding through the development of the local limestone industry up to the present day. Displays include an 1840s log cabin, artifacts from the Gentry Brother's Circus of the late 1800s and collections donated by local music legends Hoagy Carmichael and John Mellencamp. The museum is in the Carnegie Library, an early 20th-century Classical limestone structure. A local history and genealogy research library also is available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
