Lane Place is at 212 S. Water St. This restored Greek Revival antebellum mansion was the home of Henry S. Lane, former governor and Civil War senator and one of the founders of the Republican Party, and his wife, Joanna Elston, the daughter of a prominent Crawfordsville businessman. Original furnishings and family mementos include the top hat Lane wore as a pallbearer at Abraham Lincoln's funeral and a Civil War surgeon's kit. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.

Hours: Wed.-Sat. 10-5, Tues. 1-5, Mar. 1 through Nov.; by appointment rest of year. Closed major holidays.
