Pros: We always stay at Holiday Inn Express whenever we are traveling. We stayed at the other Elkhart Holiday Inn last time but booked rooms into this hotel for our daughter's graduation from Notre Dame. I called ahead of time and told them that we were traveling with my mom (age 94) and my in laws, also elderly, and asked about accommodations. Unfortunately, when we arrived, they were not prepared for us, (and this was after midnight) and my husband and daughter had to carry a rollaway bed down a flight of stairs for my mom to sleep in after being told that we would have two queen beds. We were told that the renovation was not complete and the room we were promised was not ready. My mom, therefore, slept on a rollaway bed for six nights. In addition, the handicap tub had no stripping on the bottom, was very slippery and my mom had a terrible time taking a shower. We had booked five different rooms and everyone had slippery tubs, (and when we notified the manager, she said they did not put strips in the bottom of tubs, or non slip mats either,) two of our parties arrived back at the hotel with their doors unlocked, and one had water on the carpet at the side of the bed for the last three days they were there.
Having said all this, the breakfast was fine and the area beautiful. Staff should not promise that rooms will be ready, especially for older citizens, if there is a chance that they won't be.
Cons: I think we should be reimbursed for some of the accommodations because it was clearly a matter of the construction not being finished and we were certainly not given a stay that lives up to any of the other Holiday Inn Express Hotels that we have stayed in before and I was and am concerned that my mom was not given a proper bed to sleep in or a handicap tub that was safe to take a shower in.
