Limberlost State Historic Site and Visitor Center is at 202 E. 6th St. The original two-story Limberlost cabin was home to author, photographer and naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter for 18 years. She designed the 14-room house to blend with the environs of Limberlost Swamp, the inspiration for her work. Some of her possessions and photographs are displayed. The Porters moved to Rome City after the swamp was drained in 1913. The wetlands include nature trails.
Guided tours are available.
