Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is at 500 W. Washington St. in White River State Park . This sandstone building was designed especially as a showcase for Native American and Western art, and for Native American artifacts collected by Harrison Eiteljorg, Indianapolis businessman and philanthropist. The facility includes three major permanent collections and gallery space for traveling exhibitions. The Western Collection displays paintings, drawings, graphics and sculpture from the early 19th century to the present and includes works by Georgia O'Keeffe and Frederic Remington. The Native American Collection exhibits such objects as woodcarvings, basketry, pottery and clothing from Native American cultural regions all over North America. The Contemporary Art Collection showcases modern works representing the diversity of the West. The building itself is considered a work of art. The museum hosts different events throughout the year, including the Eiteljorg Indian Market and Festival and art shows. Guided tours are available by appointment. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
